Jakarta’s Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) urged the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) to take firmly measures to overcome the conflict remaining within the National Awakening Party (PKB).
“PKB’s conflict has made NU followers supporting PKB disappointed. So this should be immediately overcome,” said the Chairman of Jakarta’s NU Advisory Council, KH Ahmad Shodri Witular to NU Online at a national ulema conference in Surabaya, Saturday (29/7).
<>Shodri said the conflict should be final by the end of 2006. The National Assembly and Major Conference, he added, may be good moments to unify two sides of conflicting PKB. “We expect PBNU to take firmly measures. Within the context, PBNU should act,” he said.

Responding to the issue, Chairman of PBNU Ahmad Bagja suggested that many are now expecting PBNU to take such efforts to reconcile the PKB’s conflict. The problem is that, he said, PBNU has no powerful stepping stone to do it. In accordance with the results of Boyolali’s Conference, the party had no relation to the religious organization.
“So the problems doesn’t lie on the willingness or not. PBNU has no courage to take such measures because this is a violation of NU’s own rules. It differs from the results of NU Conference in Kediri, Boyolali saying that NU had no connection with PKB,” Ahmad Bagja said. (rif)
